Cam Keating

Piping Director

Biography

Cam began playing the bagpipes in Selkirk, Man. in the fall of 1966, and has been enthusiastically involved with the instrument ever since. His own tuition under Pipe Major Neil Sutherland and Pipe Major Ian A. Conn was detailed, patient and positive; a teaching approach he strives to emulate. Cam has taught many successful young players over the years, serving several tenures with the Ogden Legion Pipe Band, the Edmonton Youth Pipe Band, private solo tuition, as well as numerous workshops and focus sessions with many other Pipe Bands.

Cam played with the Grade 1 Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band throughout the group’s zenith years, and was integrally involved in the musical arrangements, concerts and recordings of the period, as well as competition appearances at the World Pipe Band Championship Finals. Cam is an accredited ASPD adjudicator as well as a member of the current Music Committee. He’s also played various forms of pipes and whistles with several folk groups, modified and repaired instruments, and taken a hand to reed-making. Cam remains passionate and committed to passing on the skills to play and love of the instrument.
